A 19th century Grand Tour bronze after the celebrated Apollo Belvedere.
The ancient marble was discovered in Rome in 1489, among the ruins of a Roman house on the Viminal Hill. It was acquired by Cardinal Giuliano della Rovere, later Pope Julius II, who had it moved to the Vatican in the early 16th century. It remains there today in the Octagonal Court of the Vatican Museums.
