This stunning piece is a traditionally made armour of the Toraja people of South Sulawesi, Indonesia.
The vest is woven from rattan and the individual scales are carved from bone and native wood and fastened to the jacket in a shingle pattern, so as to prevent spears or other weapons from penetrating between the scales.
